At 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year, $25 an hour works out to $52,000 a year before taxes. That is $1,000 a week, $2,000 every two weeks and about $4,333 a month.
The math is simple once you know the key number: a full-time year has 2,080 paid hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). Multiply an hourly wage by 2,080 to get the yearly salary, or divide a salary by 2,080 to get the hourly rate.
Hourly to salary chart
The chart assumes a 40-hour week and pay for all 52 weeks. That's how most employers and job listings quote annual pay, with paid holidays and vacation counted as paid hours.
| Hourly wage | Weekly | Biweekly | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $15 | $600 | $1,200 | $2,600 | $31,200 |
| $16 | $640 | $1,280 | $2,773 | $33,280 |
| $17 | $680 | $1,360 | $2,947 | $35,360 |
| $18 | $720 | $1,440 | $3,120 | $37,440 |
| $20 | $800 | $1,600 | $3,467 | $41,600 |
| $22 | $880 | $1,760 | $3,813 | $45,760 |
| $25 | $1,000 | $2,000 | $4,333 | $52,000 |
| $28 | $1,120 | $2,240 | $4,853 | $58,240 |
| $30 | $1,200 | $2,400 | $5,200 | $62,400 |
| $35 | $1,400 | $2,800 | $6,067 | $72,800 |
| $40 | $1,600 | $3,200 | $6,933 | $83,200 |
| $45 | $1,800 | $3,600 | $7,800 | $93,600 |
| $50 | $2,000 | $4,000 | $8,667 | $104,000 |
| $60 | $2,400 | $4,800 | $10,400 | $124,800 |
| $75 | $3,000 | $6,000 | $13,000 | $156,000 |
A quick way to estimate in your head: double the hourly wage and add three zeros. $25 an hour becomes roughly $50,000. The real figure is always about 4% higher ($52,000), because a year has 52 weeks, not 50. The shortcut is good enough for comparing job offers on the spot.
How to convert hourly pay to a yearly salary
- Count your paid hours per week. Use the hours you are paid for, not the hours you spend at work. A 9-to-5 day with an unpaid 30-minute lunch is 37.5 paid hours a week, not 40.
- Multiply by the number of weeks you are paid. Use 52 if you get paid time off, fewer if some weeks are unpaid.
- Multiply by your hourly rate.
For example, $25 × 37.5 hours × 52 weeks = $48,750. That is $3,250 less than the "standard" $52,000, and it's entirely down to the unpaid lunch break.
When 2,080 hours is the wrong number
- Unpaid time off. If you don't get paid vacation, count only the weeks you work. Two unpaid weeks at $25 an hour take the year from $52,000 down to $50,000.
- Part-time schedules. 30 hours a week at $25 is $39,000 a year (25 × 30 × 52).
- Overtime. Under federal law, non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Five overtime hours a week at $25 an hour adds $187.50 a week, or about $9,750 a year if it happens every week.
- Seasonal or contract work. Multiply by the weeks you actually expect to work, not 52.
The Hourly to Salary Calculator handles all of these. Enter your real hours, unpaid weeks and rate, and it converts your pay to weekly, biweekly, monthly and yearly figures.
Salary to hourly: the reverse
To turn a salary into an hourly rate, divide it by 2,080:
- $40,000 a year ≈ $19.23 an hour
- $50,000 a year ≈ $24.04 an hour
- $60,000 a year ≈ $28.85 an hour
- $75,000 a year ≈ $36.06 an hour
- $100,000 a year ≈ $48.08 an hour
Salaried jobs often mean more than 40 hours a week. If a $60,000 job regularly takes 50 hours, you are really earning about $23 an hour (60,000 ÷ 2,600 hours).
What $25 an hour looks like after taxes
Everything above is gross pay. Your paychecks are smaller because of taxes and deductions. Here is a rough example for a single filer earning $52,000 in 2026 in a state with no income tax, such as Texas or Florida, with no retirement contributions:
- Social Security and Medicare (7.65%): $3,978
- Federal income tax, after the $16,100 standard deduction: about $4,060
- Take-home pay: about $43,960 a year, or roughly $3,660 a month
State income tax, health insurance premiums and 401(k) contributions reduce that further, often by a few hundred dollars a month. Your pay stub or your employer's payroll portal will show your exact numbers.
Is $25 an hour a good wage?
It depends heavily on where you live. $52,000 is far above the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, which hasn't changed since 2009, but it is a little below what a typical full-time US worker earns: the Bureau of Labor Statistics put median full-time earnings at roughly $1,200 a week in 2025. The same paycheck stretches much further in Oklahoma City than in San Francisco, mostly because of rent.
