Why would I convert a JPG to PNG?

You would convert JPG to PNG when you need: transparent backgrounds (PNG supports alpha channel transparency, JPG does not), lossless quality for logos, icons, or text-heavy graphics (PNG uses lossless compression, preventing the JPEG compression artifacts), or when the image will be edited and re-saved multiple times (each JPEG save degrades quality, while PNG does not).

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

Converting JPG to PNG does not restore quality that was already lost during JPEG compression. However, once converted to PNG, the image will not lose any additional quality from further saves or edits. The PNG format is lossless, meaning no further degradation occurs after conversion.
