Random strings, your way

Choose a length and the characters to use — uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols — or type your own custom alphabet. Presets cover common needs such as hex, URL-safe (letters, digits, - and _) and letters-only strings. Every character is chosen independently with your browser's cryptographically secure generator, with no bias toward any character.

Generate one string or up to 1,000 at once. The tool shows how many bits of randomness each string has, so you can judge whether it's strong enough for a secret, and an option to avoid look-alike characters like I, l, 1, O and 0 makes codes easier to read aloud or type.

Frequently asked questions

How random are the strings?

Each character comes from the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, suitable for tokens and keys.
