Sales tax in both directions
Enter a price and your combined sales tax rate to see the tax and the total you'll pay. Have a receipt total and need the pre-tax price? Choose Remove tax — the calculator divides by (1 + rate) instead of subtracting the percentage, a common mistake that gives the wrong answer.
In the US, your rate is the state rate plus any county, city and special-district taxes, so check the combined rate for your ZIP code. The same calculator handles VAT in the UK and Europe and GST in India, including the CGST/SGST and IGST split for invoices.

Tips and good to know
- Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no statewide sales tax, though some Alaska towns add a local one.
- Removing 8.25% tax from $108.25 gives $100, not $99.32 (which is what subtracting 8.25% gives).
